Former Chelsea left-back, Ashley Cole believes manager, Mauricio Pochettino got a key substitution wrong during his side’s Premier League 3-1 defeat against West Ham United on Sunday.
Chelsea midfielder, Carney Chukwuemeka scored his first senior goal to make it 1-1 in the first half for Pochettino’s side after Nayef Aguerd opened the scoring for West Ham.
Pochettino substituted Chukwuemeka at half-time and replaced him with Ukrainian, Mykhailo Mudryk.
But Cole was not pleased with Pochettino’s decision.
“Maybe the substitution [Carney off, Mykhailo on] caused an issue.
“They [Chelsea] lost a bit of impetus in the game. They were not getting the runs in behind between right-back and centre-back. It was all then too easy for West Ham,” Cole told Sky Sports.
He added, “Pochettino will have understood the context behind the change but I felt they lost a bit of ability to drive beyond and cause West Ham a problem.”
